Selected Resources for Federal Labor Law

United States Department of Labor – The DOL website provides information for employers and employees regarding Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), labor relations, wages, work hours and much more.

U.S. Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division – The WHD website provides employers, workers, job seekers and retirees with clear and easy-to-access information on how to comply with federal employment laws.

Federal vs. State Family and Medical Leave Laws – The federal government provides comparison charts that show the differences between federal and state protected leave laws.

Selected Resources for Labor Law in California

State Bar of California – For the public, the State Bar of California website contains tips on finding a lawyer, a local lawyer referral service, and an attorney search.

California Labor & Workforce Development Agency – The LWDA oversees six major departments, boards and panels that serve California businesses and workers: the Agricultural Labor Relations Board, California Employment Development Department, California Unemployment Insurance Appeals board, California Workforce Investment Board, Department of Industrial Relations, and the Employment Training Panel.

California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement – The DLSE, along with the Office of the Labor Commissioner, adjudicates wage claims, investigates discrimination and public works complaints, and enforces Labor code statutes and Industrial Welfare Commission orders.

California Retaliation Complaint Unit – The DLSE’s Retaliation Complaint Unit investigates complaints alleging discriminatory retaliation in the workplace on the basis of various Labor Code sections.

California Department of Fair Employment and Housing – DFEH is California’s civil rights agency, which investigates alleged violations of state discrimination and benefits laws, such as the California Family Rights Act (CFRA).

California Department of Industrial Relations – DIR’s website offers information for employees and employers about improving working conditions for California wage earners, including compliance monitoring and registration and filing services.
